It’s another Forget-Me-Not Friday and this time we’ll be featuring Fuzz in a happier story 🙂 I do hope someday to have Fluffybutts Family followers participate in Forget-Me-Not Friday and to expand this community of pet lovers. Until then, I’ll continue to feature pets we’ve had until there just aren’t any more, in which case I’ll be posting previous Forget-Me-Not Fridays until someone, I hope, decides they want to add their story.
So, Fuzz was born to Raina before we managed to get her spayed (see the post World Spay Day for why waiting really wasn’t a good idea – although, better late than never). Fuzz was one of four kittens born to Raina, and one of seven we had in March of 2013 due to Noah falling pregnant at nearly the same time (they had their kittens three days apart). There were originally thirteen, but having been born outside and keeping them outside, several of them died, we think, because a tom was trying to get Raina and/or Noah to go back into estrus. Yes, that’s a thing. Toms will try to get queens to go back into estrus by killing off their kittens. It’s sad, but it’s true, and it’s nature.
Anyway, so we had seven kittens – Fuzz, Mia, Akira, and Smokey were from Raina, and Bagheera, Sassafras, and Kaya from Noah (we’ll talk about the other kittens later). Fuzz was one of the quieter kittens and one of the most gentle (Kaya was not, but we’ll talk about that in another post). She loved being held and cuddled and seemed to know she was adorable. I mean, just look at these pictures!
Now, we knew we’d have to find homes for all seven of these kittens (as long as no more of them died because of a passing tom, which they shouldn’t because by that time we’d gotten Raina and Noah both spayed). This time, I was determined we would find good homes for them, and we would make sure the people adopting were good people and intended the kittens to be pets (and not something else.) At the time, I didn’t think of asking them if they intended to spay or neuter them, but in the future (if we ever have more kittens), I most certainly will. We put ads up on craigslist figuring it would be the best place to reach people who might want a pet. Of course, it’s not the best place to advertise pets, but we took as many precautions as we could to make sure we found people genuinely wanting a pet.
Surprisingly enough, a lot of people expressed interest in Fuzz. Come to find out it was because of her unique coloring. Apparently, that color of tabby is pretty uncommon. We’d put on the ad that it was first-come, first-serve and talked with the first person to express interest. They seemed like good people. We talked about their home, whether they had children, that they actually intended to keep her as a pet, etc. Everything checked out. However, at the last minute, they backed out. That was okay. I simply went to the second person who contacted us and went through the same process. They, also, seemed like good people and everything checked out. When she was nine weeks old, they came to get her, paid the little adoption fee, and took her home. Yay! Fuzz was going to a good home. We would miss her, but the knowledge that she would be happy, healthy, and safe outweighed the longing to see her and cuddle her again.
This post was written in memory of Fuzz. May she never be forgotten.
Forget-Me-Not Friday is about pets we have lost, whether they’ve passed over the Rainbow Bridge, got lost and were never found, or had to be given up for one reason or another. Please feel free to participate in this event to honor our pets by sending a picture (or a few pictures) and your pet’s story to FluffybuttsFamily@mycompanymail.com. Tell me about your beloved dog, your adorable cat, your favorite horse, your silly goat, your pet pig, your mischievous ferret, etc. I’ll post one picture and one story each week in memory of those pets.
If you want to participate in Forget-Me-Not Friday please send:
- a picture (or pictures) of your beloved pet
- a summary of their story
- the link to your blog and any links pertaining to that pet
- your name (doesn’t have to be your real name)
Also, please consider becoming a part of our Fluffybutt Family and following us on our journey 🙂
